Student Scholarship Reserve Program

The La Pine Fire District’s resident reserve firefighter program is a three year degree program in both structural fire science and emergency medical services. At the end of their third year and upon successful completion of all program requirements, reserves will receive their AAS degree in structural fire science. Upon completion of their EMS degree, internship requirements and passing of National/State paramedic tests, reserves will receive their AAS degree in emergency medical services and paramedic certification.

The application process for our program starts in the fall and typically runs through the end of March the following year. Information and application packets are available here or through Central Oregon Community College. All documents are printable. Please follow the instructions on the application very carefully otherwise you may miss your opportunity to participate in the testing process. The testing process will take place in April of each year with dates and times provided in a timeline format also located here on the website. This timeline is updated each year. Locations of the testing are also provided and come with driving directions

The number of new first year reserves the District will select each year may vary based on budgetary factors. Each new first year reserve selected will receive a full scholarship unless otherwise noted. Each scholarship will cover tuition, books and a monthly stipend as long as the student remains in good standing with the District and continues to meet all degree and program requirements.

Reserves live and work alongside the District’s career personnel, allowing reserves to learn while actually performing and practicing their skills in the field providing fire, EMS and rescue services. Reserves will also receive other specialized training through the District which will provide required certifications and appointments in other areas beneficial to their career growth. Feel free to contact the Resident Reserve Coordinator, Lieutenant Joey Sawyer at joeysawyer@lapinefire.com if you have any questions (best done via e- mail).
