Fire Suppression Services
La Pine Rural Fire Protection District Map
The La Pine Rural Fire Protection District provides fire suppression services within the Fire District’s boundaries, an area just over one-hundred square miles. The District also provides and receives mutual-aid with adjoining agencies, including Sunriver Service District, Crescent Fire District, Oregon Department of Forestry, and the US Forest Service. Typical incidents include structure, wildland and vehicle fires, hazardous material releases, carbon monoxide alarms and ordinance enforcement related to outdoor debris burning.
Fire suppression services are provided by career, volunteer and resident student members who typically respond as members of a three person crew comprised of a Company Officer (Lieutenant), Apparatus Operator (Engineer), and one or more Firefighters. Incident command and District resource management are typically provided by a Duty Officer / Captain, Assistant Chief or the Fire Chief.
Fire personnel are trained to a minimum of NFPA Firefighter 1, Wildland Interface Fire Fighter, Hazardous Materials – First responder operations, and EMT Basic. Fire personnel also receive an annual minimum of 60 hours of continuing education and training.
Fire apparatus are dispatched by Deschutes County 911. Crews respond on “alarm appropriate” apparatus which may include a Structural Engine (Pumper), Wildland / Interface Engine, Water Tender and / or Type 6 Duty officer engine.
All hostile fires occurring within La Pine Fire District boundaries are investigated by a District Officer. Investigation of suspicious fires or those involving human injury or fatalities are often assisted by the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Oregon State Police.
Outdoor debris burning is regulated by the Fire District through adopted burn ordinance regulations. Citizens who conduct debris burning must be in possession and compliance of these regulations. Burn Permits are available at the front door entrance at each La Pine Fire District station, or our Administrative Office.
